(Marion, IL) – Today, Marion Mayor Robert L. Butler announced his support of Dale Fowler in the race for State Senator in the 59th District.

“Politics in southern Illinois isn’t always about picking one party or the other, it’s about picking the right person for the job. The people of Marion and the people of southern Illinois deserve a State Senator that can deliver results for this district. Dale Fowler is the right man for the job,” Butler stated.

Butler was first elected mayor in 1963 and is now the longest serving mayor in Illinois history and is believed to be the second longest serving active mayor in the United States. During his time in office the city of Marion has experienced tremendous growth even through the budget crisis in Springfield.

“The level of capital investment that Mayor Butler has brought into Marion is impressive and benefits the whole southern Illinois economy,” said Fowler.

Both Butler and Fowler agree that our students, seniors and veterans deserve dedicated funding streams to ensure that the care and future of most vulnerable neighbors aren’t subjected to budget politics and political games.

Mayor Butler is focused on Marion maintaining its positive momentum and believes sending Dale Fowler to Springfield would be beneficial to job creation efforts in Marion and across the entire the 59th District.

“During my tenure as Mayor I have had the opportunity to work closely with both candidates. I know Dale Fowler will give southern Illinoisans the strong voice we need in Springfield,” Butler explained.
